Richard Harrington is a British actor, born and raised in Wales.

In addition to English (the actor was born into an English-speaking family), he speaks Welsh perfectly, since he studied at a Welsh school.

One of the roles that brought him fame was the role of chief detective Tom Mathias in the series "Hinterland". In interviews, the actor has repeatedly stressed that participating in the project has significantly improved his conversational level of Welsh. "Hinterland" — "Y Gwyll" in the original Welsh language version - is a multi-part detective story.

A distinctive feature of this series was that each scene was filmed twice — once in English, the other in Welsh, with the exception of a few scenes in which the English version uses Welsh with subtitles. This series was created to promote the Welsh language and culture on the main BBC channels.
