John made his Broadway debut in 1964 in the production of The Royal Hunt for the Sun with Christopher Plummer and David Carradine.
Thanks to the role of the mayor in Dirty Harry with Clint Eastwood, John Vernon gained international fame. But what made him really famous was the role of Vernon Wormer, the strict college dean from the cult 1978 youth comedy Menagerie.
Interestingly, John Vernon worked a lot on dubbing animated films. Among his works — he both voiced General Ross and Major Talbot from the comics "The Incredible Hulk", as well as the animated series "Batman", "Spider-Man", "Dinosaurs".
