The Urals is a region where malachite is stored, a stone that decorated the Malachite Hall of the Winter Palace and the columns of St. Isaac's Cathedral. It was here, in the shadow of the legendary deposits, that the story that we are writing to this day originated in 1991.

It all started modestly — in the kitchen of a student dormitory in Yekaterinburg. Yuri Karandaev, having nothing but hands, experience and an unmistakable stone sense, created the first works that immediately gained connoisseurs. Thus was born the workshop, which was destined to become a living symbol of the Ural stone-cutting art.

The path to perfection is rarely easy. The massive machines that filled the walls of the second workshop were severely tested twice a year by the Ural floods — each time the equipment had to be completely dried and restored before returning to work. But it was this persistent school that hardened the character of the workshop: no circumstances can cause a deviation from the chosen path.

Since the late 1990s, the workshop has developed a church trend — creating objects for temple interiors and church decorations. A special, sublime field in which the skill of stone carvers has found its highest application — in the most delicate and responsible work.

In 2012, Yuri Karandaev was joined by his son Vladimir. In the same year, the workshop moved to the international level: the geography of projects expanded, and products found their place in private residences and representative interiors abroad. Distances have lost all meaning where true craftsmanship speaks.

In 2016, his son Alexey joined the ranks of the workshop. A team of like-minded people has formed around the family, united by a deep understanding of the craft and unconditional respect for traditions. Next to the masters, there were students who were keepers of knowledge, skills and an approach to business that had been honed for decades.

One of the most significant projects of the workshop is the Heritage table, created in 2018. This is not just a product, it is a manifesto: understanding the path traveled, recording the experience gained over decades and passing it on to new craftsmen, new generations.

Today, the workshop is located in Yekaterinburg, in a new space, where it moved in 2026, while preserving the spirit of craftsmanship from which it all began. The workshop's works adorn private residences, executive interiors, offices of heads and rectors, as well as temples and churches in Russia and far beyond its borders.

The Karandaevs' workshop is three decades of unconditional devotion to stone, family and craft, in which each object carries the character of the Urals and the touch of the master's hand.
