About this product
Art. : 373-37

There are always four of them. The Inseparable Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Plague – War– Famine–Death. They are often considered servants of the Devil, because their names and mission are difficult to relate to the Divine. However, not everything is so clear.

The Horsemen of the Apocalypse appear in the sixth chapter of the last of the books of the New Testament. The punishing force that God calls upon to punish humanity for its sins. Being evil, they are called upon to restore order in the world – executioners at the throne of God. Everything is symbolic in them – the names, the suits of their horses, the events that occur with their appearance. According to the Revelation of John the Theologian, the Four Horsemen are the four first seals of the seven seals of the Book of Revelation. The horsemen always appear strictly one after the other, each with the opening of the next seal, and fulfill their mission to sow holy chaos and destruction in the world.

The third rider is Famine, sitting on a black horse. Hunger, like the previous two horsemen, represents the misfortunes and hardships that God's will brought down on people in order to punish the guilty and test the strength of believers. It is no coincidence that this is the only horseman who can speak, and when he appears, he broadcasts about the impending shortage of grain, which promises people starvation, and, accordingly, an increase in grain prices, while the price of wine and oil remains unchanged. Strangely enough, grapes, wine and oil are used by Christian believers for communion, and they remain available. The color of his horse is black, the color of death, sorrow, and mourning.

The academic artistic and educational base, long-term work in design combined, made it possible for the viewer to see rethought artistic forms, sculptures, sculptural and monochrome painting through the prism of modern design. Masterpieces created by talented masters of the ancient world have inspired poets, composers, playwrights and artists for several centuries. The creators of ancient culture were the ancient Greeks, who called themselves the Hellenes, and their country — Hellas. Images of the Olympian gods and mythological heroes, whom the Hellenes represented as perfect people. A person in whom the beauty of an athletically trained body is combined with spiritual nobility and moral purity. Heroes. The winners. The gods.

The presented series of works is made in the style of metamodernism. Through the reinterpretation of ancient art, through the stylization of forms. Generalizing figures by pattern and color, trying to preserve plastic expressiveness and find a new artistic context. Reducing all colors and shades to a black-and-white, monochrome palette, completely abandoning any color, abandoning minor details, enhancing plasticity, dynamics, transforming shape, while not losing the main thing and thereby giving it a fundamentally new imaginative content.
