For the past century and a half, these figures have adorned all chess competitions. Their noble, perfect silhouette cannot be confused with any other. And who doesn't know that they are named after the great Staunton. But it turns out that this is a deep misconception: these figures were created by a completely different person! In 1995, Natalia Ivanova, director of the Russian Chess Museum, shared with the public her discovery, which was the result of her many years of research.
