The Battle of Waterloo

Waterloo is a small village in Belgium near Brussels. It owes its wide popularity to the events that took place near it on June 18, 1815. On this day, a battle took place that put an end to the political and military activities of Emperor Napoleon I.

Napoleon entered Belgium with an army of 120,000 men. His goal was to defeat in turn the Anglo-Dutch army under the command of English Field Marshal A. Wellington and then the Prussian army under the command of Field Marshal G. L. Blucher. Napoleon sent his main forces to Waterloo against the British army. The Allied forces reached 70 thousand people, with 159 guns, the French forces — up to 72.5 thousand, with 240 guns.

The battle lasted from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The stubborn frontal attacks of the French troops were repulsed with heavy losses for them, however, Field Marshal Wellington's reserves were running out. In the midst of the battle, the Prussian corps suddenly approached from the east and decided the outcome of the battle with a blow to the flank. The French lost all guns, 2 banners, the entire convoy and more than 30 thousand dead, wounded and prisoners in the Battle of Waterloo; the Allied damage reached 22 thousand people. The disorderly retreat of the French turned into a flight. Napoleon abandoned the remnants of the army and fled to Paris with three thousand soldiers, an army with which it was no longer possible to defend the capital or continue the war.

... But everything could have happened differently if the Emperor of France had had accurate information about the number and exact location of the opponents. After all, the basic principle that guided Napoleon at that moment – "Divide and rule!" - has been demonstrating its viability since the time of Ancient Rome.

The Battle of Waterloo chess set with figures of soldiers of the armies of Napoleon and Wellington is the perfect gift for decision makers in our rapidly changing world. The metaphorical meaning of this battle – "forewarned means armed" - will be close to people who know from experience how important fresh and objective information is.

The set is delivered on an oak board with a soft base, draped with burgundy velvet, inside. The external dimensions of the board 43x43 cm allow you to freely arrange the pieces. The board field is made up of alternately arranged squares of American walnut and maple veneer. The frame of the board has alphabetic and numeric numbering, which allows you to record the game.

The figures are cast from a zinc alloy, which guarantees them from the traditional settling of tin when the temperature rises. Each figure is hand-painted by the artists of our workshop. Each figure is placed on a wooden base made of hardwood (beech, oak or ash), which reliably protects the board from mechanical damage. The inner bed holds them securely during transportation.

The kit is supplied in a shipping cardboard box with a handle.
