The recipient of the autograph, Nikolai Popov, is a doctor at the Cosmonaut Training Center, Yuri Gagarin's place of work.
Yuri Gagarin is a Soviet cosmonaut, the first man on Earth to fly into space, hero of the USSR.
The envelope was signed a year after Yuri Gagarin's legendary flight into space. Almost a month after his flight, he went on a business trip abroad, known as the "Peace Mission". In just a few years, Gagarin visited 29 countries and made more than 40 foreign visits. The schedule was very tight — endless rallies, lectures and press conferences left almost no time for entertainment. In 1962, when this envelope was signed, Gagarin visited Austria, Ghana, Greece, Denmark, Cyprus, Liberia, Libya, Finland, Japan and the United Arab Republic.
