Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut, the first man on Earth to fly into space, and a hero of the USSR.
This photo was taken in June 1963, and signed in the same month. It depicts the first six cosmonauts of the USSR (Yuri Gagarin, Andriyan Nikolaev, Valentina Tereshkova, Pavel Popovich, Valery Bykovsky and German Titov). Cosmonauts walk in the Cosmonaut Training Center, the town of Zeleny (now Zvezdny).
After returning from a space flight, Yuri Gagarin was greeted on April 16, 1961, at the CPC, in the Green Town. From that day on, Gagarin's period of work began in the still unfinished cosmonauts' town. In addition to his direct official duties, Gagarin also took on many other responsibilities, traveled to various authorities and helped solve the problems of the town under construction.
