History knows many great people whose names are immortalized on its pages thanks to their victories, exploits, discoveries, and labors. But there are those among them who have contributed to the development of all mankind. And Aristotle, the significance and scope of whose works are difficult to overestimate, undoubtedly belongs to them. 47 of his works have come down to us (although a total of 170 are attributed to authorship), and, in addition to the number, the diversity of their subjects is striking. Aristotle wrote about almost all sciences and disciplines known to his contemporaries, as well as those that did not even stand out as such at that time: from astronomy to zoology and anatomy, from geography to physics, from poetry to politics, from psychology to economics, from history to theology, from rhetoric to aesthetics. Needless to say, in order to have knowledge in all these areas and masterfully operate on them, it is necessary to have exceptional intelligence?! Many of Aristotle's views and ideas were revelations to his contemporaries and became the basis of the future medieval European science. But the most important discovery made by Aristotle was the position that any aspect of human life can be the subject of reflection and the object of scientific analysis. Contrary to the ideas prevailing in his era, Aristotle did not believe that the universe was governed by the will of the gods or chance, with which nothing could be done. He encouraged people to think about the phenomena around them, rely on their observations and logical conclusions. And even though some of his discoveries were outdated, and some were erroneous, he probably did more than any scientist before him and many after, as he began to teach people to make sense of their lives in all its manifestations.
This book contains aphorisms from the main works of Aristotle ("Metaphysics", "Poetics", "Politics", "Categories", "First Analytics", "Ethics", "Rhetoric", "On animal parts", "On the soul"). Many sayings gained fame and became famous many centuries ago, and at the same time, many still sound surprisingly modern. The legacy of Aristotle, one of the greatest thinkers in history, will always exist outside of time, because this legacy is thought itself.
