The pinnacle of A. Rublev's work is the icon "Trinity". It depicts three angels arranged in such a way that the lines of their figures form a kind of closed circle. There is no active action and movement in the icon — the figures are full of motionless contemplation, and their gazes are directed into eternity. The semantic center of the composition is a bowl with the head of a taurus — the prototype of the sacrifice of the cross. The silhouette resembling a bowl is also formed by the figures of the left and right angels. The icon is filled with symbols. Rublev placed an image of Abraham's chambers behind the angel symbolizing God the Father. The oak, as the tree of life, serves as a reminder of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which opens the way to eternal life. It is located in the center, above the angel symbolizing Christ. The mountain is a symbol of spiritual ascent, located behind the angel symbolizing the Holy Spirit. The left angel, symbolizing God the Father, blesses the cup — however, his hand is in the distance, he seems to pass the cup to the central angel, who also blesses it and accepts it, inclining his head expressing his consent: "My Father! If possible, let this Cup pass Me by; however, not as I want, but as You do." The special, mysterious nature of angels is brilliantly conveyed by Rublev, who created unusually gentle and at the same time majestic images. Spiritual harmony, a feeling of love is conveyed through smooth linear rhythms, which are emphasized by an exquisite color scheme.
