Rasul Gamzatov mentions his most famous poem, "Cranes," in the autographed document. The theme of cranes was inspired by the poet's visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the monument to a Japanese girl named Sadako Sasaki, who suffered from leukemia after the atomic explosion in Hiroshima. Sadako Sasaki hoped that she would be cured if she made a thousand paper "cranes" using the art of origami. In Asia, there is a belief that a person's wish will come true if he folds a thousand origami cranes out of colored paper. Russian Russians also have their own image in Russian culture, which Gamzatov was very familiar with as a translator of Russian classical poetry.
