An autographed document of the participants of the Zionist Congress of 1929.
The 16th Zionist Congress was held in Zurich (Switzerland) from July 29 to August 10, 1929, where N. Sokolov was chairman of the assembly.
The meeting was attended by 315 delegates, 37 of whom signed autographs on a document consisting of 6 pages. Most of the signatures are in English, but they are also found in Hebrew. Among them are such personalities as Leon Blum (Jewish Prime Minister of France, 1936-1937, 1938), Herbert Samuel (1st High Commissioner of Palestine, 1920-1925), M. Dizengoff (founder and 1st mayor of Tel Aviv), Vera R. Weizmann (First Lady, wife of the 1st President of Israel Chaim Weizman).
At this congress, a final decision was made on the establishment of the "expanded" Jewish Agency (the corresponding resolution was supported by all delegates, with the exception of the revisionists) and the draft of its charter was approved. In connection with the 25th anniversary of the death of T. Herzl, N. Sokolov made a speech at the congress dedicated to his memory.
A few days after the closure of the Sixteenth Congress, riots broke out in Palestine. The Zionist movement was in chaos, and Chaim Weizmann, who was re-elected president of the World Zionist Organization, resigned.
