The Stargift collection features a check for $36, written to his fifth wife, Louise Dudley, on December 15, 1944. In the lower right corner is the signature of the oil magnate, left in black ink. Check No. 1831 was issued by the Security Service of the First National Bank of Los Angeles.
His marriage to Louise Dudley was the longest in the biography of Paul Getty: the couple were married from 1939 to 1958. The couple met in 1935 when Louise was working as a singer at the New Yorker nightclub. Getty was 40 years old when he met this 20-year-old girl who came from a wealthy but dysfunctional family. In 2014, the ex-wife recalled the moment of their meeting: "I was amazed at what he asked me, how he talked. I really wanted to get to know him. His mind, but he also had a great sense of humor. And he was very attractive, as far as I could tell."
