Возраст вставок из аризонского окаменелого дерева составляет порядка 255 млн. лет (Триасовый период). Геометрический зеркальный рисунок на внешней и внутренней сторонах нардов обеспечивается за счет использования цельных каменных пластин, которые подвергаются зеркальному распилу (камнерезная техника «bookmatch») и раскрываются как книга, чтобы рисунок отражался.
