The cornucopia is a large horn, whose bell is filled with earthly fruits, a symbol of a combination of power and generosity. The horn, from which fruits and flowers pour out, is a very ancient symbolic motif. It is an attribute of virtues, charitable personifications of gods and goddesses, including the Roman goddess of abundance, Abundance. The horn was depicted in the hand of the Greek goddess Eirene by the sculptor Cephisodotus (c. 374 BC). The cornucopia is an attribute of Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, abundance and land, as well as an attribute of Autumn, allegorical figures of Peace, Harmony and Fortune, Hospitality and Europe. The west wind Zephyr, married to Flora, scatters flowers from the cornucopia. During the Renaissance, the cornucopia motif regained popularity, as evidenced by the famous ceiling lamp by Antonio Correggio in the monastery of San Paolo in Parma, dating from 1518. According to Ovid, the cornucopia was formed from the horn of the goat Amalthea, who nursed the god Jupiter, or, according to another version, it originated from the river god Acheloi, to whom Hercules broke his horn. It is believed that the true origin of the cornucopia lies in the ancient belief that the true abundance lies in the horn of a goat or bull.
