From the very beginning of its existence, watches have been the privilege of the "powerful of this world" - kings, clergy, the highest aristocracy. Nowadays, too, not everyone can afford the luxury of buying an exclusive watch.
Bluing of steel is the process of obtaining a layer of iron oxides 1-10 microns thick on the surface of carbon steel or cast iron. The thickness of this layer determines its colors, which change each other as the film grows (yellow, brown, cherry, purple, blue, gray). The coating structure is fine-crystalline, microporous. To add shine, as well as improve the protective properties of the oxide film, it is also impregnated with oil (mineral or vegetable).
Now bluing is used mainly as a decorative finish, and before that - mainly to reduce metal corrosion.
