The Food Industry magazine was established in 1930. 1930 is the first year of the first five–year plan – the plan for technical re-equipment and reorganization of industry, transport and agriculture, the beginning of giant construction projects of the first five-year plan. Together with the whole country, the food industry was being re-equipped and reconstructed. In this regard, it was decided to organize several industry magazines instead of one magazine "Food Industry", including the magazine "Canning Industry", which then became known as "Canning and Fruit and Vegetable Industry". After 1940, the industry magazines were reunited into one and from January to May 1941, five issues of the Food Industry magazine were published. M. Lifshits was the acting executive editor of the Food Industry magazine. From June 1941 to December 1956, the magazine was not published.
At all stages of the formation and development of the country's food industry – from the first five–year plans to the Great Patriotic War and the post-war restoration of the national economy - the magazine fulfilled its main task – it was the organizer and propagandist of the development of the latest achievements of science and technology in the food industry. The journal was a link between scientists and practitioners of many food industries, between managers of all levels of management of the food industry and specialists working at food enterprises in our country.
The first issue of the monthly economic and scientific-technical magazine "Food Industry" from the Stargift collection was published in January 1941. It examines improvements and innovations that increase production efficiency. In addition, the journal contains notes on the problems associated with the supply of food to the population during the war, and on measures taken to increase food production and improve their quality. The publication contains statistical data on the output of enterprises, as well as results and indicators of labor productivity. All materials are supported by analytical reviews of the industry.
