Banksy has gained international recognition for his distinctive style of satirical street art and graffiti, made using screen printing techniques. His works are rich in black humor and are often accompanied by "subversive" epigrams that contain sharp and powerful comments on the social and political aspects of modern society.
The Di-face Tenner bill became the first official exhibit of the street artist Banksy to enter the collection of the British Museum. The famous copy of the ten-pound note was created in 2004. It was distinguished from the original by the image of Princess Diana in the place where the face of Elizabeth II was usually depicted. Also, in place of the usual signature of the Bank of England, Banksy of England is printed in calligraphic handwriting.
Bansky wanted to arrange a performance with these banknotes and described this idea in his documentary, Oscar-nominated film "Exit through the souvenir shop": the artist said that he would print 100 thousand such bills and throw them off the roof of the building. The "fake" banknotes were sold at the Reading Festival, and they tried to pay with this money in neighboring stores, not noticing the substitution.
