The collection includes the most significant works of the writer: fourteen of his short stories and novellas, as well as four fairy tales: "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", "The Sandman", "Little Tsakhes nicknamed Zinnober" and "Adventures on New Year's Eve".
All the texts of the book are given in translations by Zinaida Andreevna Vershinina.
The publication is decorated with drawings by French artists of the XIX century Paul Gavarny and Charles D'arnoux, who wrote under the pseudonym Berthal.
