The American romantic poet, brilliant short story writer Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is also considered the inventor of the detective genre - his stories appeared long before the "Notes on Sherlock Holmes". His fantastic plots, psychological riddles and horrors (reviving corpses, awakening in the grave, a killer monkey, a pendulum axe) became the basis for the works of many writers and film directors in the future.
