In the entire history of world philosophy, there are few thinkers who could be placed next to Confucius. A legendary great Teacher, an indisputable authority for the Chinese philosophical tradition, he has long since stepped over its very narrow limits. The legacy of Confucius, if we discard a lot of dubious and openly attributed texts, is very concise. However, the philosophical system developed by the thinker and his students has nourished Chinese and world culture for more than two millennia, regardless of political turns and historical changes. Confucius taught and preached, preferring the spoken word to the written one, as Socrates later did among the ancient Greeks. After the death of the Teacher, his followers collected and systematized all the famous sayings of Confucius — and this work took about fifty years! The result was the book "Lunyu" — "Sayings", which to this day embodies the inviolability of the foundations of the Celestial Empire and the worldview of its subjects. The knowledge of "Lunyu" by heart has been a mandatory requirement of Chinese classical education for all centuries.
